NHS Services

Primary & Specialist NHS Services

General Practitioners (GPs)
First point of contact; offer advice, support, and referrals.

NHS 111
24/7 service for urgent but non-life-threatening concerns. Free from landlines and mobiles.

Crisis & Emergency Services
Attend A&E or contact NHS crisis teams. Most people can be supported at home; inpatient care is reserved for severe cases.

IAPT (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies)
Quick access to evidence-based therapy for anxiety, depression, and related conditions. Some services accept self-referrals.

Secondary Care Services
Specialist support for severe or complex mental health conditions such as psychosis or personality disorders.

Specialised A&E units for mental health crises, providing calm, suitable care with trained staff. Locations include:

Papyrus
Suicide prevention for young people under 35 via HOPELINEUK helpline, guidance, and awareness campaigns.

Andy’s Man Club (AMC)
Peer-led weekly groups for men, offering a safe space to talk in a structured check-in format.

James’ Place
One-to-one talking therapy for men 18+ in suicidal crisis. Calm, non-clinical settings with no waiting lists.

The Listening Place
Face-to-face support for people feeling suicidal, with appointments often within seven days.

Rethink Mental Illness
Accredited advice, local peer groups, and national campaigns supporting anyone affected by mental health issues.
